The Owl has Landed
In March this year it was discovered that the Owl, which was originally carved out of a cut tree trunk, was at risk of rotting like the lower part of the tree trunk that had supported it for so long.
In May, the Troston Woods group removed the Owl for careful restoration and in June, the Owl returned to a new perch.
There are 6 wooden sculptures in the Woods, each will undergo restoration over the next few months. The Squirrel is next!
Our thanks go particularly to Ian Ross and Richard Ballam for their efforts in restoring and relocating the Owl.
Perched on its new home.

The New Zipe-Wire
June sees the installation of the new Zip-Wire. As you may recall, the previous Zip-Wire had passed its "sell-by" date and no longer conformed to the latest Zip-Wire standards (BS 1176).
After a survey in which an encouraging number of villagers partcipated, the overall vote was to replace the Zip-Wire with a new one.
So the installation has been completed and snagging in progress.
Let us know what you think.

VE DAY CELEBRATION 'PICNIC'.
An informal event was held on 05 May to celebrate VE Day. Normally held on the playing field area, due to poor weather, it was relocated to the Village Hall with thanks to Brenda and her Village Hall team for making the arrangements.
Attendees brought their morning's kitchen culinary delicacies to share, a BBQ was fired up and together produced a sumptuous spread for afternoon tea.
Sincere thanks to Jane Harland and Malcom Smith for coordinating the whole event for us.

TROSTON WOODS VOLUNTEER WORKING GROUP
On Saturday, 22 March the Troston Woods Volunteer group spent a morning in the Woods on what will become a monthly activity to keep the Woods clean, tidy and organised. In the plan for this year will be lining pathways and maintaining each of the wood sculptures, starting with the Owl whose wooden base has started to rot. The Owl will be moved a short distance away to a new stump in May.
Here are some photos of the merry group on a nice spring day!

This much dangerous barbed wire removed.
Join us on our next activity which will include moving the Owl to its new plinth on 10 May.
TROSTON VILLAGE COMMUNITY SEED SWAP
After recent discussions the Parish Council have now adapted the old disused telephone box, located on The Street opposite the pub, into a Community Seed Swap. Anyone in the village and surrounding area are welcome to come and take a look and use it to swap any unwanted seeds, get different seeds to try out, post information regarding extra plants you may have that others might give a good home to and later in the season you can even offer excess produce to others.
Community Seed Swap
If you have seeds to swap:
Please make sure the packet is labelled with the name of the plant and the appr
oximate number of seeds and any other relevant information.
Please be respectful to others that may want seeds and do not take more than you need.
If you don’t have seeds to swap:
You can make a small donation to the tin (donations will go towards future green space projects in the village).
If you have plants, seedlings or excess produce:
Please pin a note to the board stating plants/seedlings/produce available and either an address or contact number to arrange collection – please do not leave plants or vegetables in the phone box as they will not be watered or looked aft
er. Before!
If you have any ideas/comments please contact the Parish Council Team
