Troston Honey – Mike Graystone
Mike’s initial introduction to bees was at an early age, when he was still at school and tasked with looking after the school’s six bee hives. In 1954 after completing National Service, he met with an old friend who had become a bee-keeper and he has been bee-keeping ever since. “It is a passion, they are just marvellous creatures and we should all really look after them.”
Mike has been for many years Apiary Manager at West Suffolk Beekeepers’ Association who upon his retirement said “There are hundreds of beekeepers who have been taught and inspired by Mike and he leaves a significant legacy to the association and all of us he taught.” (https://premium.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/tribute-paid-to-retiring-west-suffolk-beekeeping-teacher-who-9257433/)
Mike has 60 colonies of his own bees on farm land in Troston and Ixworth, producing his ‘Suffolk Honey’, which can be found at the Jackdaw Garage in Troston, Hillcrest Nurseries in Stanton amongst others.
